Barcelona eyeing future with extensions for Pedri and Ansu Fati; Gavi and Araujo to follow

Camp Nou core taking shape for Barcelona

Spanish giants Barcelona have begun to take important steps regarding their future on the pitch at the Camp Nou, with the club having extended the contracts of multiple La Masia products with more to come.

La Roja starlets Pedri and Ansu Fati have both have their contracts renewed in the Catalan capital, and are set to continue their growth and progression at Barcelona as chief long-term pieces of the jigsaw puzzle.

❗Ansu Fati’s release clause will also be €1B.

Fati was also subject of an other-worldly €1billion release clause inserted into his extension. While all La Liga clubs place release clauses in contracts as a standard practice, the monumental fee attached to the 18-year-old winger surely signifies the clubs desire to make him one-club man in the long term. It is also worth noting that Pedri has the same release clause attached to his new deal with Barcelona, according to BBC Sport.

After Pedri and Fati, Barcelona will begin to angle the same approach over another young pair in breakout sensation Gavi as well as 22-year-old Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araujo.

Araujo has made seven appearances in La Liga this season after a breakout season last term that saw him net 24-appearances in the league, while the 17-year-old Gavi has burst on to the scene this year, already featuring eight times for the first-team under Ronald Koeman while the club look to plan his long-term future accordingly as a key piece starting next season according to @AdriaAlbets.

Uncertainty around Dembélé scuppering squad building plans

Another piece of the first-team squad that could be tied down in Catalunya is French international Ousmane Dembélé. The 24-year-old former Borussia Dortmund standout was offered a contract by Barcelona weeks ago, but he and his entourage have yet to respond to the approach by the club.

According to SPORT’s Lluis Miguelsanz, the club hierarchy expect an answer from Dembélé by the end of the month, and they fail to make headway in discussions, the Frenchman could be up for sale in January.

Barcelona have been linked with interest in wantaway Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling in the wake of the England internationals comments about testing himself outside of the Premier League, with Dembélé apparently being monitored by both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Thankfully for Barcelona, Dembele has hardly produced the consistency or offensive output to be considered a necessary requirement for the club to move forward with its plans.
