Barcelona’s ‘top priority’ for January transfer window revealed

Barcelona’s top priority for the January transfer window has been revealed, according to reports stemming from Spain.

Barcelona’s struggles

The 2021/22 campaign has, so far, been one to forget for FC Barcelona.

After a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich, La Blaugrana have slipped out of the Champions League and into the Europa League for the first time since 2003/04.

In La Liga, meanwhile, things are not going much better. Xavi’s side are 8th in the table and have won just two of their last five, with their last two outings seeing them lose to Real Betis and blow a 2-1 lead late on vs Osasuna.

Barcelona’s priority

To compound this, Barcelona are also seemingly set to lose the services of Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine will give a statement on Wednesday, in which he is expected to announce his retirement from football.

Though seriously tragic for Aguero, it leaves an already struggling Barca side one man lighter up top, an area in which they lack quality anyway.

So, it is not too surprising to see it reported that the Spanish powerhouse are eyeing a striker in January.

As per Goal citing Spanish outlet Sport:

Barcelona have made Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani their top priority for the winter transfer window, claims Sport. With Sergio Aguero expected to announce his retirement on Wednesday, the Liga giants are eager to ensure that they have another proven goalscorer on their books ready to lead the line.
