Premier League giants Chelsea have, on Friday, confirmed the latest loan departure of defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Blues’ bloated squad
It is of course expected to prove a busy 24 hours or so on the west of London ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
On the back of a heavy recruitment drive over the last twelve months, Thomas Tuchel’s squad is brimming with fringe options, the vast majority of whom are unlikely to carve out any real playing time over the course of the season ahead.
To the credit of the board at Stamford Bridge, thus far this summer, they have managed to move on the likes of Kurt Zouma, Olivier Giroud, Davide Zappacosta and Tammy Abraham.
A whole host of out of favour options remain, though, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Danny Drinkwater and Malang Sarr just a few of those staring an altogether fruitless 2021/22 campaign in the face.
It will therefore no doubt come as a boost for all associated with the club to hear of confirmation that another member of Tuchel’s 40-strong playing panel has today been moved on.
The player in question? Tiemoue Bakayoko.
French midfielder Bakayoko has of course endured an altogether difficult stint in the English capital since arriving from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017.
Loan moves to all of Napoli, former club Monaco and AC Milan, in turn, have been forthcoming over the last couple of years.
And, on Monday, a long-anticipated return to the latter has finally been confirmed.
As per an announcement across the Blues’ social media platforms, Bakayoko has linked back up with Stefano Pioli’s Milan on a two-year loan deal:

A further insight into the terms of the deal, meanwhile, has since too been forthcoming.
As per the reliable Nizaar Kinsella of Goal, Bakayoko’s exit from Stamford Bridge is finally set to be made permanent this time around. This comes with Milan obligated to pay up come the conclusion of the Frenchman’s loan.
The agreement, all told, could net Chelsea a none-too-shabby fee of around €20 million.
