Germany boss provides explanation for Chelsea star Rudiger’s absence from training

Germany boss Hansi Flick has, on Sunday night, provided an update on the fitness of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

Rudi blow

Concern surrounding the wellbeing of Blues standout Rudiger of course began to spread earlier today.

The 28-year-old, fresh off the back of a stellar opening to the new campaign, was unsurprisingly called up by Germany this week, for the nation’s latest round of international fixtures.

Rudiger started and featured for all 90 minutes on Friday night, as Die Mannschaft got the better of Romania in a World Cup qualifying clash.

In turn, it was no doubt viewed as a blow by supporters of not only Germany, but also Chelsea, when word began to do the rounds this afternoon that the former AS Roma man had played no part in the former’s latest training session.

‘Back problems’ were cited as the reason behind his absence, by the reliable SportBild.

Flick speaks

And, on Sunday night, Rudiger’s national team boss has moved to confirm as much.

Speaking to the media ahead of Germany’s meeting with North Macedonia tomorrow evening, Hansi Flick was inevitably drawn on the wellbeing of his key defender.

And Die’s Mannschaft head coach went on to reveal that ‘Rudi’ is indeed dealing with a minor back issue.

The Chelsea star, though, is nevertheless in contention to feature in Skopje in 24 hours’ time.
