Liverpool front-three prove they are the league’s in 4-0 Southampton drubbing

Front-three run riot against Southampton

Liverpool was once again at the races today at Anfield against visiting Southampton when they ran out 4-0 winners for the second time in as many weekends, this time putting Ralph Hasenüttl’s Saints to the sword.

It was similar proceedings that took place in front of their home support last weekend when they bested Mikel Arteta’s upstart Arsenal outfit by the same scoreline, and once again, the Liverpool front-three were front and center in the goals department.

Diogo Jota: “People have asked me whether I thought I could break into the established front three when I first came to Liverpool. I never thought too much about it. I just thought about coming to this amazing club and doing my job in training sessions.” #awlive [lfc] pic.twitter.com/eM1DP3lMgC

Diogo Jota bagged a brace today as he was chosen to lead the line instead of Brazilian international Roberto Firmino, with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah providing the helper on the second goal on the day for the Portuguese.

Though Senegalese sensation Sadio Mané did not get on the scoresheet in any capacity, Jota’s brace confirmed that Liverpool is the proud owners of the top-three goal scorers in the Premier League this season.

Salah has jumped ahead and taken an early lead in the race for the golden boot, with Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy now neck-and-neck with both Mané and Jota in the goal chart, with an astounding 25-goals scored between the Liverpool trio out of the club’s 39-goals in the league this season.

Is Liverpool the best side in the league?

Though Liverpool may drop back down to third in the Premier League table if Manchester City ousts visiting West Ham tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium, the question of whether the Reds are the top side in England must surely be asked.

No other side in the top flight of English football has found the back of the net in every fixture this season, while their 39-goals just one-third into the 2021-22 campaign is an absolutely ludicrous return.

Much can, has, and should be said about what is transpiring at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea top the table under German tactician Thomas Tuchel, but there is something about Liverpool this season that perhaps captures the imagination just a little more than what the Blues have put forth this season.

No matter what corner you choose, this is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining Premier League seasons in recent memory as we are currently in a three-way race for the top spot in England.
